BEDFORD, Texas-Respondents to Consumer Reports magazine's annual survey on muffler, brake and transmission service said they were most satisfied with the work done by independent automotive repair shops. The study, published in September, said independents did more satisfactory brake work, charged less than dealerships or chains, had greater repeat business, and that muffler repairs were more likely to be done correctly the first time and completed without pressuring consumers for additional repairs.
Respondents were less satisfied with transmission work, but still preferred independent shops.
