The newly elected president of the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association, James Faught, will deliver the keynote address at the International Tire Exhibition & Conference (ITEC '94), Sept. 21, at the John S. Knight Center in Akron. Mr. Faught will represent independent tire dealers at the first-ever conference geared solely for the world's tire manufacturers.
The NTDRA president will offer ITEC delegates a ``view from the field''-how development, research and cooperation in the industry's technical and manufacturing areas impact tire dealers.
Falken to build distribution center
Falken Tire Corp. plans to establish an East Coast distribution center by the end of the year, the company announced during the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association's 74th annual trade show and convention in Dallas.
The planned facility will allow the distributor/marketer of performance passenger and light and medium truck tires to serve customers in the northeast U.S., according to Frank Dorso, vice president of sales and marketing.
Falken currently has distribution centers in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Nashville, Tenn.
Yokohoma to produce twin tire
Twin Tire U.S.A. Inc. awarded the primary production contract for its Anno-2000B dual tire to Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd., Twin Tire announced during the NTDRA convention.
The steel-belted, low-profile, V-rated tires will feature an asymmetrical tread pattern and be available in two sizes for applications on a limited number of foreign and domestic vehicles, according to Richard Miesen, president and CEO of Malvern, Pa.-based Twin Tire.
Yokohama had produced the Anno-2000, an earlier dual tire, through a joint Mitsubishi Corp.-Crimson Inc. venture called J.J.D. Japan Inc.
Twin Tire, a subsidiary of ATS Wheel Inc., Vancouver, British Columbia, plans to begin distribution of the tires in January.

Kevin Sapp, formerly vice president of sales and marketing, has been named vice president-international key accounts, working with Rema's parent company, Stahlgruber Otto Gruber GmbH & Co. in Munich, Germany.
Former sales manager James McMillan has become vice president of sales for the northern U.S. He is responsible for Washington, Oregon and Alaska across the northern U.S. to Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
James Osborne, vice president of sales and technical support, will manage sales in the southern U.S., from California, Hawaii and Nevada in the southwest to Florida, Maryland, Virginia and the Carolinas in the southeast.
The company also will add two sales representatives in both the northern and southern regions.
Art Lutz proud of independents
The tire industry distribution system works because the independent dealer ``is the most vital and important part of the distribution network,'' NTDRA president Art Lutz of Lutz Tire Co. Inc. said during his farewell address at the NTDRA convention.
``(The independent dealer) is still very much in charge of his own destiny. He is still staunchly independent, and I, for one, am damn proud of him,'' Mr. Lutz said, noting independent businesses provide 80 percent of the new jobs in the U.S.
During his address, Mr. Lutz said he was proud of the Strategic Planning Committee appointed during his administration.
``What this group ultimately produces could reshape the whole future of this association,'' Mr. Lutz said.
