WASHINGTON-Wholesale prices of most tire types showed little change in June compared with May, although there were declines in some categories, including radial truck/bus tires and all-season passenger radials. On the other hand, tread rubber prices increased significantly.
Passenger tire prices remained even from May to June. Modest growth in prices of highway standard service radials was eclipsed by the 0.8 drop in all-season prices.
Truck and bus tire prices dropped 0.2 percent overall in June, with radials down 0.3 percent. Prices of non-radials were unchanged.
Prices of other pneumatic and all solid tires slipped 0.3 percent in June, although that category showed a 3.2 percent increase over June 1993 levels.
Prices of tread rubber rose fairly substantially, growing 1.8 percent in the month, while prices of tire sundries and repair materials edged up 1.3 percent.
