As a Goodyear dealer in Glendale, Ariz., I can certainly understand the frustration of the California dealers and their decision to sue the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. (TIRE BUSINESS, Aug. 8 issue.) Goodyear's signing of Discount Tire Co. of Arizona and Sears, Roebuck and Co. has destroyed our Goodyear tire sales and our profit margins. I have been associated with Goodyear since 1955. I was very saddened to read the quotation from the Goodyear spokeswoman stating in your article: ``It is our firm conviction that Goodyear operates within the law.''
I can remember when morals and ethics were the firm conviction for Goodyear towards its loyal dealers. The spokeswoman further stated that the company was: ``Quite disappointed that the dealers felt the need to take this action against one of their suppliers.''
I am sure that they are not nearly as disappointed as the many Goodyear dealers that have seen their businesses go down the tubes in recent years.
