AKRON-Three former General Tire executives have launched a new tire distribution enterprise that will introduce two U.S.-made private brands in Europe. Alexander MacLean, who left General last August as senior vice president of sales and marketing for the passenger and light truck division, formed Alexander Group International Inc. in mid-July. The firm has two divisions: Euro-mark Tire & Products Co. Inc., which will distribute tires in Europe; and AGI Co., which will distribute the Turkish-made Lassa tire brand in the Eastern U.S.
Mr. MacLean appointed former General vice president of private brands Mike Peterson as vice president of marketing and former General director of sales Jack Roderic as vice president of sales.
This fall, the firm plans to introduce TBC Corp.'s Sigma line and Reynolds Tire & Rubber Co.'s Vanderbilt line in Europe.
``Europe is ripe for the private label business,'' Mr. MacLean said. The firm will debut the tires in Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
The other half of the enterprise, AGI, will distribute Lassa brand passenger, truck, farm and OTR tires in the U.S. Mr. MacLean described the brand, made by BRISA Bridgestone Sabanci Tire Manufacturing & Trading Inc. of Istanbul, Turkey, as a product that was virtually unknown in the U.S. but has now ``come into its own,'' offering protected territories and high margins.
The Alexander Group is located at 4836 Pin Oak Road, Akron, Ohio 44333; (216) 668-2262. Fax: (216) 665-1918.
