VENTURA, Calif.-Business has been ``pretty good through June, but July has been soft,'' according to Parnelli Jones Inc.'s COO, David Witten. Through June, unit sales of tires, which account for 60 percent of the company's business, have been up 10 percent over last year, he reported.
Automotive service-including suspension work, alignments, brakes, and some underhood repairs such as tune-ups, belts and hoses-makes up the remainder of the dealership's business.
Following the company's merger last year with Dob's Tire and Auto Centers, Mr. Witten said ``that momentum and excitement has carried over into some markets where we re-identified Parnelli Jones' multi-brand line up.''
Daniel Beach, who founded Dob's Tire in 1977, is Parnelli Jones president and CEO.
The company's ownership is divided among Mr. Beach; his partner, Ventura, Calif., businessman Roy Doumani; and the company's employees, who own a large percentage of the company through an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP).
