New 6-year warranty on Sierra anitfreeze
OMAHA, Neb.-To quell consumer concerns about invalidating their vehicle's manufacturer's warranty if they install non-toxic Sierra-brand antifreeze, its manufacturer is offering a warranty.
Safe Brands Corp. pledged its six-year/60,000 mile warranty will cover the entire cost of any cooling system repairs caused by Sierra's failure to protect.
The product, based on a phosphate-free propylene glycol formula, is said to be safer than the ethylene glycol in conventional antifreeze, but some in the industry have questioned whether it provides adequate protection.
To obtain warranty coverage, car owners must install Sierra within two years or 20,000 miles of when a car is new and renew Sierra protection every two years.
