LOUISVILLE, Ky.-For the ninth consecutive year, Bridgestone radial truck tires have been rated best in retreadability, according to the results of a Tire Retreading/Repair Journal survey in June. Based on a point scale of ``1'' to ``5,'' with 1 being ``good'' and 5 being ``poor,'' Bridgestone garnered the most first-place votes from both retreaders and truck fleets, Michelin second place, Goodyear third and Yokohama fourth. These companies held the same rankings as last year with the exception that the fleets ranked Michelin above Bridgestone.
The journal, an American Retreaders' Association publication, sent surveys to 1,475 retread plants and 1,475 trucking fleets. The ranking was based on a 25-percent response rate from retreaders and a 5-percent response rate from the fleets.
In retreaders' rankings of the brands based on combined points, Bridgestone garnered the top spot, Michelin came in second, followed by Yokohama, Goodyear, Kelly, Firestone, Toyo, General, Sumitomo and Continental.
Among the truck fleets, Michelin led with the most combined points, followed by Goodyear, Bridgestone, Yokohama, General, Kelly, Firestone, Toyo, Continental and Sumitomo.
In ranking their favorite brands, considering other factors beyond retreadability, most participants preferred Michelin, followed by Bridgestone and Goodyear.
