ESSEN, Germany-International tire wholesalers, buyers and retread manufacturers are being courted to support a selling-oriented ``tire traders summit'' scheduled for April 19-21, 1995, in Cannes, France. The inaugural ``International Tyre Traders Summit'' will provide a ``dynamic, effective and focused business forum,...an environment specifically designed in which to conduct business,'' according to organizer Keith P. Greetham of Professional Events Ltd. of Solihull, England.
The international tire trading fraternity is responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars worth of revenue from tires, observers acknowledge, although hard and fast data on the segment are not readily available.
Tire makers often blame traders for disrupting pricing, but the volume of business they do reflects the demand from buyers, observers say.
Supported by a core group of European tire wholesalers, the event is seen as an alternative to trade shows or conferences in that participants will have equal size booths and the opportunity to meet with potential buyers without the ``distractions'' of an exhibition or conference schedule.
Participation and attendance is by invitation only, Mr. Greetham emphasized, and will be limited in numbers-for now no more than 60 to 80.
Response to an initial, targeted mailing was ``exceptionally strong,'' Mr. Greetham said, especially from the U.S., Denmark, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
Buyers expected to be invited include tire distributors, large retailers, buying groups, discount clubs and importers.
Efforts will be taken to identify potential buyers in economically growing areas.
Professional Events has been organizing similar events for other industries for more than a decade.
