MISSISSAUGA, Ontario-Firestone Automotive Centers of Canada has begun including emergency roadside service with the sales of all Bridgestone and Firestone passenger and light truck tires. The Canadian retail arm of Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. signed onto the Tire Protection Plus program offered by Auto Road Service Inc. of Sherman Oaks, Calif., in February.
Auto Road Service, which has provided the tire protection program to various tire dealership chains in the U.S. and Canada since 1991, said its roadside service program is similar to those provided by most car makers.
Customers who buy tires from any of the 105 Firestone Tire and Automotive Centers in Canada are provided with a card that includes the tire serial number and a toll-free number that dispatches a local service provider to handle roadside flat tire changing.
The service is included in the price of the tires and the program has generated numerous consumer inquiries to both company-owned stores and independent Bridgestone and Firestone dealers, according to Lou Monico, the company's consumer product specialist. He said the service is an effective tool for closing a sale.
The company is considering offering the road service program through company-owned outlets in the U.S. and even through its dealer network, he said.
