I represent a used tire exporting firm in the New Jersey area and am responding to a May 2 letter (decrying the importation of used tires) from Luis Alvarez of L.A. Premium Tires & Service-and who happens to be a very lucky person. Not everyone looking to buy tires is walking around with $400 to $600 to buy premium tires. There are many people who must resort to second-hand tires so they can put food on the table, pay bills and send their children to school.
I have noticed lately that Goodyear, Firestone and other major tire stores are reaching out to attract the non-premium tire buyer.
Importing quality useable tires into any country is good business practice. It helps the hard-working and less fortunate to accomplish the same goal-to keep their cars rolling.
By the way, America is still a free country!
