GREENVILLE, S.C.-Michelin Americas Truck Tires has redesigned its XZA steer and XM+S4 drive tires, optimizing them for regional transportation applications, the company said. This regional marketplace is served predominantly by class 6 and 7 vehicles, Michelin said, making short hauls of up to 150 miles, often for just-in-time deliveries, with frequent stops and starts.
To meet the needs of this market segment, Michelin said it has improved the tires' traction, handling, mileage and retreadability.
The improved casing, common to both tires, features full-width working plies, a protector ply that extends under all major tread grooves and rectangular beads for enhanced stability.
The regional XZA has received a 6-percent wider tread than the original XZA, redesigned with two see-through circumferential grooves for enhanced water evacuation and modified shoulders to improve stability and reduce wear.
The XM+S4 has no visible external changes, a Michelin spokesman said.
Both tires are available initially in sizes 11R22.5 and 11R24.5, with tube-type sizes to be added later.
