LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The American Retreaders' Association honored seven people with awards for their contributions to the industry April 21 during the 37th ARA World Tire Conference & Exhibition. Receiving Industry Leadership Awards were Joseph A. Russo, former president of Hercules Tire & Rubber Co. and the Ohio and National Tire Dealers & Retreaders associations, and Scrap Tire News publisher Mary B. Sikora, who also is the ARA's scrap tire adviser.
The late Dr. Raymond P. Hawkinson Sr., former president and CEO of Paul E. Hawkinson Co. in Minneapolis, received an Industry Pioneer Award.
Dana F. Arnold, who has been responsible for the implementation of the existing federal government procurement guidelines for retreads and other recycled products with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, received a Friend of the Industry Award.
Inducted into the International Tire Retreading and Repairing Hall of Fame for their contributions to retreading were:
The late Bernard D. ``Bernie'' Alm, former president of Vulcan Equipment Co., who pioneered the use of tire section repair molds and the ``Tread-bonder'' adjustable precure retreading module;
Arthur W. ``Art'' Hudson, former president of Hudson and Odom Tire Co., who developed systems in OTR plants to reduce labor and increase productivity; and
The late Louis S. ``Lou'' Myers, who founded Myers Tire Supply-later known as Myers Industries Inc.-and assisted in developing and marketing the first automatic buffer in the U.S.
