McDowell Tire Co. of Kansas City, Mo., recently celebrated its 55th year as a General Tire commercial dealership. The event was marked with a special presentation by General Tire executives to McDowell Tire Chairman W.G. McDowell. Mr. McDowell purchased the dealership in 1938. Today the company operates full-service truck and OTR tire centers in Kansas City and Springfield, Mo., and Pittsburgh, Kan., and manages tire maintenance facilities in five states.
General Tire said Mr. McDowell also has been credited with developing a design for the first tire service truck in the 1940s.
In April, Newark, Calif.-based Perdue Tire Inc. completed its first year of production at its upgraded Bandag retread plant in Stockton, Calif.
The 18-year-old company, which moved its manufacturing operations from Newark into a 57,000-sq.-ft. plant in Stockton last year, produces truck, off-the-road and industrial retreads and has sales/service centers in Newark, Stockton, Concord, San Jose and South San Francisco, Calif.
Perdue Tire plans to boost its production from 200 to 250 or 300 units a day this summer with the addition of personnel, according to President John Perdue.
Horace Ferguson turned over ownership of his Seattle dealership, Ferguson's Big O Tires, to his son, Rick, and retired in April after more than 30 years in the business.
In 1966, Mr. Ferguson bought Grant's Tire Mart, where he had served as a manager, and converted it into Ferguson Tire. That store later became one of the first Seattle-area stores to join the Big O system.
The five-bay retail tire outlet posted sales of about $480,000 in 1993.
Oregon-based wholesaler Six Robblees has moved to Milwaukie, Ore., after operating nearly 50 years in Portland.
The tire retail and wholesale operation, owned by Dave Robblee, said its new location is more efficient and larger when an outside storing area is taken into account. Six Robblees primarily sells truck, trailer and recreational vehicle tires, according to a spokesman.

Firestone of Denham Springs Inc. has relocated its accounting department from its retail outlet in Denham Springs, La., to its warehouse, Consolidated Tire & Oil (C.T.O.), in Baton Rouge, La.
C.T.O. and its retail store primarily sell Firestone, Bridgestone, Michelin, Uniroyal, Jetson and Seiberling brand passenger, light truck, truck, agricultural and specialty tires.

Georgia Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association President Bob Rogers has been named ``Business Person of the Year'' for 1993 by the Mableton Business Association for his active participation in the association and in the business community.
Mr. Rogers and his wife, Gail, operate Mableton Car Care Center in Mableton, Ga. He is the 1995 Mableton Business Association president-elect and previously has served that organization as treasurer.
