WASHINGTON-Beginning in April, the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association will offer an ``Employee Screening Service'' through which association members can screen prospective job candidates. The service, which provides a background investigation of potential employees, can reveal, among other things, unfavorable employment history, alcohol or narcotics problems, criminal records, serious credit problems and falsified academic credentials, according to the NTDRA.
An employment services company is providing the program for the NTDRA on a contractual basis. The NTDRA declined to name the company.
The screening service, well-suited to help members avoid problems when filling sensitive management positions, had been requested frequently by NTDRA members, an association spokesman said.
``Employee screening is becoming a considerable issue with some folks,'' said Charles D. ``Tony'' Hylton III, NTDRA director of communication services. ``When these things happen, we try to develop a service.''
Depending on the amount of employee information requested, the service will cost between $25 and $100.
Mr. Hylton said NTDRA members interested in the program should contact Gurnie Hobbs, group managing director for NTDRA's Membership Services Group, at (800) 876-8372 to get more information about the service and complete a screening application.
