ENGLEWOOD, Colo.-Entrepreneur magazine rated Big O Tires Inc. as the top tire dealership franchiser in its 15th annual ranking of the top 500 franchises. Big O, with 370 outlets, ranked 113th overall. The magazine ranked franchisers on such factors as length of time in business, number of outlets, financial stability and growth rate. Goodyear and Tires Plus Groupe Ltd. of Burnsville, Minn., ranked second and third, respectively in the tire category.
Product liability bill goes to Senate floor
WASHINGTON-Supporters of federal product liability reform predict quick action on S. 687 when it reaches the Senate floor April 11.
William D. Fay, executive director of the Product Liability Coordinating Committee and other supporters of S. 687, the Product Liability Fairness Act, claim it will reduce the legal costs associated with product liability litigation, thus improving U.S. industry's competitive stance against foreign business.
But opponents insist the bill will hurt consumers injured by faulty products by reducing avenues of redress and ability to collect from guilty plaintiffs.
Dayton to launck prompt-pay credit
OKLAHOMA CITY-Dayton Tire announced the adoption of a rolling-terms credit program-establishing a uniform number of days between the date of invoice and the time when payment is due-during the company's dealer meeting in New Orleans, Feb. 3-5.
Beginning in the second quarter, Dayton-brand customers who pay their invoices within 10 days will receive a 4-percent ``prompt-pay credit.'' Similarly, Road King customers paying within the same period will receive a 3-percent credit.
During the second half of 1994, the prompt-pay credit will convert to a ``prompt-pay cash discount,'' simplifying accounting of the transaction while improving the dealer's cash flow.
N.Y. dealer honored for community efforts
KENT, Ohio-Kent State University will honor Goodyear and one of its dealers with its 1994 President's Social Responsibility Award on April 9.
Matthew L. Brown, who owns Goodyear dealerships in Brooklyn and Manhattan, N.Y., is a KSU alumnus who has been involved with the National Urban League, United Negro College Fund and the KSU Black Alumni Association.
Goodyear is being honored for its contributions to organizations and programs that focus on promoting the African-American community and enhancing workforce diversity.
NTDRA issues revised training video listing
WASHINGTON-The National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association has compiled more than 750 automotive-related video training programs from industry suppliers in its new, revised Video Training Network Directory.

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif.-As part of its first fund-raising campaign, the Tire Retread Information Bureau will raffle two Magnavox television sets and a video cassette recorder during the American Retreaders' Association's 37th World Tire Conference & Exposition, April 21-23, in Louisville, Ky.
TRIB will raffle off a 52-inch and 25-inch color TV and a VCR beginning at 2 p.m. April 23. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
