The 1993 year-end results for Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. (net income of of $50.8 million on sales of $2.12 billion) reported in our March 21 issue were non-consolidated, i.e. for the Japanese parent company only. Sumitomo's total corporate, or consolidated, results for 1993 were: net income of $41 million on sales of $4.5 billion. Compared with 1992, earnings fell 24.1 percent, and sales dropped 13 percent. The fact that consolidated earnings were less than non-consolidated indicates Sumitomo's operations outside Japan lost money.
