LOGANSPORT, Ind.-The Indiana Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association has hired Don Jones, a tire business veteran and past association president, as its new executive director, effective He replaces Carl Bristow, who is resigning after serving more than nine years in that post.
Mr. Jones operated the former National Tire Distributors in Indiana for eight years and, since taking early retirement, has been working part-time for Dwight Fouts Tire Inc. in Kokomo, Ind. He has been active in the ITDRA since 1984, serving in the past as a director and as president.
Mr. Jones said his goal is to increase the current roster of about 140 dealer members and provide additional member services and develop stronger communication within the association. His wife, Joyce, will be helping out with the bookkeeping, he said.

The administrative change was announced during the association's convention, Feb. 25-26, in Champaign, Ill., where a new slate of officers was installed.
The ITDRA elected Fred Ralston of S&R Truck Tire Center, Jeffersonville, president; Eugene Hendricks of Petro's Tire Service, Indianapolis, president-elect; Pat McMahon of McMahon Tire Inc., Fort Wayne, first vice president; Dean Biddle of Dean's Tire & Lube, Chesterton, second vice president; and Suzy Pegden of Marion Tire Inc., Marion, secretary.
SEMA firms aid disaster relief
DIAMOND BAR, Calif.-Nine Specialty Equipment Market Association members coordinated a relief effort to help victims of the destructive earthquake that struck southern California Jan. 17.
Rick Pruden, vice president of sales & marketing for American Racing Equipment, spearheaded the effort that also included Ultra Wheels, KMC, Progressive Wheels, Center Line, Prime Wheels, 100+ Motoring Accessories, Boyds Wheels and Wheel Components. The wheel manufacturers collected 20,000 pounds of nonperishable foods, blankets, baby formula and diapers and filled a 45-foot tractor-trailer. The items were delivered to a Salvation Army warehouse for distribution to earthquake victims.
Fla. show to pump up dealers
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.-The Florida Independent Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association hopes to motivate dealers during this year's convention at the Orlando Twin Towers, May 19-21.
Former football star Joe Theismann and former race driver Jackie Stewart will address the convention with the theme ``Get the competitive edge.'' About 700 people are expected to attend the convention and accompanying trade show, which has been expanded to two days this year and will feature a carnival atmosphere.
In addition to a banquet and passenger and truck tire changing rodeos, the convention will include the presentation of $25,000 in scholarships to about 15 qualifying students affiliated with the association. With this year's scholarships, the FITDRA will have awarded a total of $250,000 during its 11-year program.

The Wisconsin Independent Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association re-elected its officers for another term and tapped Jeff Grothman of Jeff's Tire Place in Portage, as a new member to the board of directors during its convention, Feb. 17-19, in Stevens Point. The WITDRA will return to Stevens Point for its 1995 convention slated for Feb. 17-18.
The Southern Division of the Missouri Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association elected Dennis Atteberry of MFA Oil Co., Springfield, president; Gary Moore of G.L. Moore Tire Co., Springfield, vice president; and Bill Marheffer of Bill-Mar Tire Centers, Mount Grove, secretary/treasurer during its March 15 meeting.
