CONTI SETS UP VENTURE IN INDIA
HANNOVER, Germany-Continental A.G. and three Indian tire makers, Modi Rubber Ltd., Apollo Tyres Ltd., and JK Industries Ltd., have set up a joint-venture engineering company to develop manufacturing technology for steel radial truck tires at the Indian partners' plants.
The three Indian tire makers have been technical licensees of Conti and/or General Tire and together control more than 50 percent of the Indian truck tire market, Conti said.
The project, of which Conti is the majority owner, does not foresee the construction of a separate plant, as was the case with Conti's GTY Tire Co. venture in the U.S.
