Smith to head MTDRA chapter
AFFTON, Mo.-The Western Division of the Missouri Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association elected Chris Smith of Laramie Tire Distributors, Kansas City, president Dec. 14.

MINNEAPOLIS-The North Central Tire Dealers & Suppliers Association will debut a new event at its Mid-Winter Conference and Trade Show, Feb. 4-5, to promote exhibitors' wares.
Prior to the opening of the trade show on Feb. 4 at the Holiday Inn West in Minneapolis, 32 exhibitors will each present a 90-second ``infomercial'' to an audience of attendees to announce new products and specials featured at their booths.
The conference also will feature seminars on handling the disposal of vehicle waste products; implementing and developing a safety committee; updating telephone manners; proper tire patching; tire shop safety; auto safety inspections; and techniques for selling tires.

Fiekler to address NTDA show
PASCO, Wash.-John Fiedler, executive vice president, North American tires for Goodyear, will provide the keynote address during the Northwest Tire Dealers Association convention, Feb. 3-4, at the Holiday Inn in Portland, Ore.
The convention also will feature a trade show, a six-hour session on the latest automotive service procedures and a panel discussion on scrap tire issues.

ASA convention seminars set
BEDFORD, Texas-The Automotive Service Association will offer four management seminars at its annual convention, March 24-26, in Panama City Beach, Fla. The topics are:
Partners in Business-addressing common questions about becoming a sole owner/proprietor after a business partnership is dissolved;
Financial Statements-covering how to read and understand financial statements and use the information they contain to make sound business decisions;
Salesmanship-teaching the skills necessary to maximize auto service selling; and
The 1993 Deficit Reduction Tax Law-reviewing loopholes in the law and how to benefit from them.
