AKRON-General Tire has been awarded a one-year contract to supply the state of California with medium, off-highway, light truck and passenger tires in 1994. General said the agreement-worth nearly $4 million-is the largest state tire contract awarded in the U.S.
Truck tires make up the largest portion of the contract, which General said represents new business for the company.
Many of the tires-which include the AmeriÃSteel, AmeriÃLug, AmeriÃD440, AmeriÃFreight, Super All Grip and Grabber-will be delivered by way of General dealers throughout California.
In a separate agreement, a General dealer in California holds a contract to outfit the state's law enforcement vehicles with the tire maker's high performance XP2000 AS police pursuit tires.
