NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-Herschel S. Davis, founder and former owner of Davis Rubber Co., died Nov. 7 of natural causes at his home. He was 93. An Arkansas native, Mr. Davis founded Davis Rubber in 1924, making patches in an abandoned boxcar near Mountain Home, Ark.
He continued to work at the firm until he was 90 and was a member of the original Tire Patch Manufacturers Association, the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association, the American Retreaders' Association and the Arkansas Tire Dealers Association.
Two of sons, Phillip and Roger, now own the company, which makes products such as tractor tire reliners, tire patches, recycled floor mats and live stock feeders.
In addition to Phillip and Roger, Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Barbara F. of North Little Rock; three other sons; and eight grandchildren.
