NOKIA, Finland — Nokian Tyres P.L.C. is updating its CT agricultural trailer tire —designed for use on tipping trailers for earthmoving and/or construction applications — with a higher load-bearing capacity.

The upgraded tire, available in size 600/55R26.5, can now carry up to 6.5 metric tons with a top speed of 40 miles per hour. At 31 mph, the load capacity is 7.9 tons. North American dealers can place orders for the upgraded product now, wiht delivery scheduled for late in the year, Nokian said.

This improvement means that in a tandem-axle configuration, users will be able to carry up to two cubic meters more soil or sand, Tero Saari, product manager at Nokian Tyres, said.

Bigger, more powerful tractors on the market today are able to pull ever bigger tipping trailers with heavier loads and manage faster road transits, Mr. Saari said. The Nokian CT trailer tire, on the market since 2014, was created in response to this need for a strong, yet comfortable tire.

"The ability to move high loads safely, comfortably and economically is what the Nokian CT trailer tire is all about. This update takes care of that in the future as well."

The tire has a wear- and damage-resistant earthmoving-grade radial structure and thick pattern, large contact area and extra high-strength construction.

"We didn't want to narrow down its use too much," Mr. Saari said. "In the real world, the same tire may be used for earthmoving, farming and many other uses — and the Nokian CT trailer tire has proven its worth in all of these, making it a popular OEM tire for trailer manufacturers."

    Pricing information was not disclosed.
