Tire Discounters grows in Georgia with Tire Barn acquisition

GAINSVILLE, Ga. --- Tire Discounters has acquired Tire Barn, a single-outlet, family-owned tire dealership in Gainsville, expanding the Cincinnati-based dealership’s presence in the Peach State to 22 locations.

In business since 1971, Tire Barn in recent years has been affiliated with American Tire Distributors Inc.’s Tire Pros franchise program. The business was founded by Bill Roper Sr. and was being run until this transaction by his sons Bill and Jack Harper, who now will “step back” from the business.

“The Atlanta metro area is important for us as we continue to grow our business, in part to the growing number of vehicles on the road each year,” Tire Discounters President and CEO Jamie Ward said.

“The Tire Barn and the Roper family are a staple of the Gainesville community, and we will continue their focus on earning the community’s business and trust. Both of our family-owned companies share a commitment to excellent customer service.”

The business operates out of a 12-bay building that resembles a red-sided barn near downtown Gainesville, a city of over 42,000 residents located about 55 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta and 29 miles north of the next nearest Tire Discounters outlet, in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Tire Discounters has boosted its presence in Georgia a number of times the past few years via acquisition, including: 

• Bulldog Tire in the eastern Atlanta suburbs of Covington, Monroe and Snellville;
• Porterfield Tire in Athens; 
• North Georgia Tire; and
• University Tire in Loganville.

It also acquired an auto glass company, Lightning Auto Glass, in Chamblee, Ga.

Tire Discounters has almost 200 locations, in eight states: Alabama, Indiana, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia.
