NORWELL, Mass.— Sullivan Tire and Auto Service has expanded its reach in Maine and New Hampshire with the acquisition of seven Stratham Tire locations.
The locations are in Bangor and Auburn, Maine; and in Portsmouth and Brentwood, N.H. (two locations).
Sullivan said it has purchased the assets of the company and will be leasing the buildings.
The company said the sale of locations in Bangor, Auburn and Brentwood includes commercial truck service and products.
The locations, each of which will be renovated over time while remaining open, will be rebranded as Sullivan Tire effective June 5.
"Stratham Tire is an iconic New England-based company that began in 1961," Paul Sullivan, Sullivan Tire's vice president of marketing, said "We are honored to add the Stratham Tire locations to our growing business. We look forward to serving their customers and expanding our community involvement in Maine and New Hampshire."
Current Stratham Tire employees may keep their jobs, Sullivan said, "maintaining the local relationships that have been established in the area."
Sullivan said all locations will continue to provide auto service.
The Norwell-based dealership operates 83 retail locations; 21 commercial truck centers; 14 wholesale distribution satellite locations; two truck tire retread plants; two LiftWorks facilities; and five distribution centers, across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Maine.
In 2023 the 68-year-old family-run company initiated an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), turning ownership over to its more than 1,500 employees.
