ROCKLAND, Maine — Eastern Tire & Auto Service Inc. of Rockland has acquired Herrick's Garage, about five miles away in Rockport, Maine.
The addition of Herrick's will double the current capacity of Eastern Tire, resulting in reduced wait times for repair, and greater efficiencies, the dealership said.
In addition to offering a full range of automotive services, Herrick's, which opened in 1988, also sold used vehicles. Eastern Tire said the location no longer will be selling vehicles and is being rebadged as Eastern Tire.
"Herrick's customers can look forward to continued quality automotive repair service from local ownership. Herrick's employees are immediately members of the Eastern Tire ESOP, and will share in all its benefits," the dealership said.
Eastern Tire recently transitioned from 77 years of family ownership to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
President Alvin Chase Jr. said he looks forward to serving even more residents of Knox County.
"Together, Herrick's and Eastern Tire have more than 100 years serving the automotive needs of Midcoast Maine," he said.
Former owner Dave Herrick, who has retired, said he is pleased to have found employee buyers who respect his staff and customers as he has for years, noting his focus on staff and customers are hallmarks of Herrick's legacy.
