CHICAGO — Discount Tire/America's Tire has grown its footprint in the Chicago market, acquiring the retail tire and automotive maintenance operations of Suburban Tire Auto Repair Centers, comprising six locations.
The deal, which closed March 31, expands Discount Tire's footprint in the Chicago metro area to more than 35 locations.
Suburban Tire offers alignments, services for brakes, batteries, steering and suspension, as well as retails tires and wheels at stores in Dekalb, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, Oswego, Roselle and St. Charles, Ill.
Financial details were not disclosed.
Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Reinalt Thomas Corp. operates nearly 1,200 Discount Tire/America's Tire locations in 39 states.
"Discount Tire is pleased to increase our service offerings to consumers and to fleet operators in and around Chicago," Christian Roe, Discount Tire chief revenue officer, said.
"Suburban Tire's commitment to treating customers right and focusing on safety by providing expert technicians supports Discount Tire's goal of making the tire, wheel and auto service experience inviting, easy and safe."
Suburban Tire employees will remain at the six locations, which will also continue to operate under the Suburban Tire Auto Repair Centers brand name.
Suburban Tire was opened in 1976 by Duke and Susan Leffler. Today, the business is operated by third-generation family member Nathan Leffler and his father Steve Leffler, alongside Gordon Leffler, the son of the founders.
The Lefflers will continue to manage the brand's day-to-day operations, reporting to Earl Davidson and Chris Adams at Discount Tire, who now have oversight of the company's full-service business segment.
"We are pleased to join the Discount Tire brand and continue to serve customers across Chicago with the level of care our family has practiced for decades," Gordon Leffler said.
"For our team at Suburban Tire, Discount Tire's culture and how it treats its people were an important part of our decision on the future."
Discount Tire/America's Tire, founded in 1960 by Bruce T. Halle, is ranked as the third largest independent tire retail dealership in North America.
Last year, the company acquired Dunn Tire and its 25 locations in western New York and Pennsylvania, and began adding stores in eastern Pennsylvania as well.
