BUFFALO, N.Y. — Discount Tire/America's Tire has acquired Dunn Tire of Buffalo and its 25 retail outlets in western and central New York and Pennsylvania.
The acquisition, for which no financial details are being released, marks Discount Tire's entrance to the New York market and expands a limited presence in Pennsylvania.
The acquired locations will continue to operate under the Dunn Tire brand name and continue to offer a wide range of automotive maintenance and repair services, which represents a change from Discount Tire's tires-only approach.
The deal also expands the dealership's reach to nearly 1,170 stores nationwide, in 39 states.
"We have the deepest respect for the strong culture that Discount Tire has fostered over its history," Dunn Tire Chairman Randall Clark said. "In searching for the right partner that would uphold the highest standard of care and respect for our people and customers, it became clear that was something only Discount Tire could offer."
Robert Clark, managing director of Dunn's retail operations, will continue to manage the brand's day-to-day retail and service operations. Chris Adams, senior vice president at Discount Tire, has oversight of full-service and fleet business segments.
All current Dunn Tire retail management and store employees remain employed. The 25 locations acquired by Discount Tire will continue to operate using the Dunn Tire brand name.
Christian Roe, chief revenue officer for Discount Tire, said: "We are excited to connect with Randy and Robert Clark to bring Dunn Tire into our family as we enter the next phase of our company's growth. They have built an exceptional business serving customers across New York and Pennsylvania. Looking ahead, we will continue to grow our businesses in new markets and bring full-service offerings to customers."
Dunn Tire's investors will retain ownership of Exxpress Tire Delivery, a wholesale business operating five distribution centers serving thousands of accounts in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. That business, which employs more than 200 team members in the region and sells all major brands, will continue to be led by the current president, David Simons, and vice presidents, Paul Pittner and Stephen Clave.
Randall Clark, chairman and CEO of Dunlop Tire Corp. in the 1980s/early 1990s, and a group of Buffalo-area investors acquired Dunn Tire in 1996 rom founder James Dunn.
Prior to this deal, Discount Tire had only one retail store in the area, in Pittsburgh.
Discount Tire is the retail brand name of Reinalt-Thomas Corp., which does business as Discount Tire in most of the U.S. and as America's Tire in parts of California and Pennsylvania. It also owns Tire Rack, a consumer-direct source and wholesaler of tires, wheels, and accessories.
Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Discount Tire also recently acquired Ellisville Tire & Service, a single-outlet retail tire and auto servcie business located near St. Louis.
Earlier this summer the dealership opened a store in Grand Forks, N.D., its first in North Dakota and 25th new store in since late 2022.
