Yokohama earnings surge on higher intl. sales
TOKYO (May 12, 2008) — Yokohama Rubber Co. (YRC) Ltd.’s operating income for the fiscal year ended March 31 surged 57.2 percent ahead of the previous year, but management is warning that earnings for the current fiscal year will suffer from the continuing rise in materials costs and the effects of the weakening yen.©
Cooper phases out Starfire brand in N. America
FINDLAY, Ohio (May 9, 2008) — Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has ceased production of its Starfire associate tire brand in North America and decided to exit some other unidentified less profitable lines, company executives said recently.©

Cooper’s profit falls on economic challenges
FINDLAY, Ohio (May 7, 2008) — Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.’s first quarter profit plunged 91.9 percent because of several challenges including high raw material costs, increased product liability costs and decreased volumes though the tire maker stayed in the black with a profit of $1.69 million.©

Goodyear to raise prices up to 8% on consumer tires

Bandag raises tread rubber prices up to 5%
MUSCATINE, Iowa (May 6, 2008) — Bridgestone/Firestone’s Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions (BBTS) division has increased U.S. prices for tread rubber products up to 5 percent effective immediately, the company said.©
