HOMER, Mich. (June 9, 2014) — Brembo S.p.A. celebrated the opening of its expanded brake parts manufacturing plant in Homer, May 21, as part of its $115 million investment to boost capacity in North America.
Brembo acquired the former Hayes-Lemmerz brake discs division facility in 2007. The capital investment that extends through 2015 will expand production capacities for brake discs, calipers and corner modules.
“This expanded and modernized production facility represents a new foundation for Brembo in North America, enabling us to increase our presence in the U.S. market and offer better service to our clients,” Brembo Chairman Alberto Bombassei said.
“Today’s celebration renews our commitment to the North American market,” said Daniel Sandberg, president and CEO of Brembo North America, during the grand opening ceremony. “The investment in the Homer facility will allow us to expand our product offerings not only in North America, but also for customers across the globe.”
Brembo said North America is on track to become the Italian company’s single largest market this year.
The plant now encompasses 440,000 square feet and is expected to produce 12.5 million discs and 400,000 calipers and modules this year, mostly for the OE market.
Brembo officials said they moved $10 million worth of production from its Monterey, Mexico plant to the Homer facility. Brembo also has a plant in Avenel, N.J.
The Homer facility employs more than 450, up from 110 in 2007.

Titan International and the United Steelworkers union have petitioned the U.S. International Trade Commission and U.S. Department of Commerce seeking relief from OTR tire imports from China, India and Sri Lanka. What’s your opinion?
|I wholeheartedly support their action – something needs to be done.||
|I think it’s a bad idea that could inevitably tie the hands of domestic tire makers.||
|I oppose any duties against tire importers—they only raise costs for distributors and make it harder to obtain inventory.||
|I’m kind of on the fence and not sure what’s right, but need more information before deciding.||
|I don’t really care whether or not relief is granted.||
