WASHINGTON (May 30, 2014) — The House Committee on Financial Services is considering a bill that would establish a 12-member Small Business Advisory Board within the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
According to the language of H.R. 4383, the advisory board would advise the bureau on the exercise of its functions under federal consumer financial laws, and also provide information on emerging practices within small businesses that provide eligible financial products or services.
The Financial Services Committee’s Housing and Insurance Subcommittee held a hearing on H.R. 4383 and similar bills May 21. Andrew Pincus, representing the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, testified on behalf of the bill.
“The Chamber repeatedly has urged the CPFB to improve its outreach to small business, and this measure would create an important mechanism for increasing the voice of small business at the CPFB,” Mr. Pincus said.
