Hornsby Tire adding Ga. warehouse

DOTHAN, Ala. (May 8, 2014) — Hornsby Tire Distributors is opening a distribution center in Columbus, Ga., to support an expansion of business into central Georgia.

The Columbus site will be Dothan-based Hornsby’s first distribution center in Georgia and fourth overall. The new center is part of a larger warehousing complex, according to President Steve Mattis, that is under construction.

Hornsby is still determining how much space it will occupy at the new site and the number of new employees. It expects to start service from Columbus May 12.

“The greater Columbus…and surrounding markets have historically been very attractive for us,” Mr. Mattis said. “We have a considerable dealer base in these markets, and we will be able to dramatically increase our service level to the same.

“We are very pleased about the opportunity to expand our dealer base in both greater Columbus and the surrounding markets. We have spent a substantial amount of time and resources in preparation of this expansion.”

Mr. Mattis said Hornsby “will continue to grow our company, but it will be controlled growth. This is largely a relationship- and service-driven industry and we will continue to offer our customer base a level of support that only an independent regional distributor can provide.”

Hornsby’s other distribution centers are in Dothan, Huntsville and Birmingham, Ala., the latter of which it opened in August 2012 with the acquisition of David Tire Co.

The company said it services customers in Florida, Mississippi and Tennessee as well as Alabama and Georgia with a range of offerings covering passenger, light truck, medium truck, OTR, agriculture, and commercial applications. Among its major brands are Cooper, Delta, Nexen and Toyo.
