TIA issues 2014 CTS instructor training schedule

BOWIE, Md. (Dec. 3, 2013) — The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has released the dates for the 2014 Certified Commercial Tire Service (CTS) Instructor Training and Certification Classes for Baltimore and Denver.

TIA said its CTS program includes all aspects of truck tire and wheel service including OSHA regulations, mounting/demounting/inflation, torque, puncture repair, balancing and road service.

The course is a train-the-trainer model that combines classroom and hands-on demonstrations, TIA said.

"Because we use a train-the-trainer model, the program gives commercial tire dealers the flexibility to hold training classes when they are the most convenient so normal operations are not interrupted. It allows dealers and fleets to comply with OSHA regulations and establish a qualified workforce without the expense of extensive travel," said TIA Senior Vice President of Training Kevin Rohlwing.

The Bowie-based association offers both a four-day and a three-day program. TIA said the four -day students arrive on a Tuesday and participate in one full day of hands-on training. Each student will physically demount, mount, install, remove and repair a tubeless truck tire. The three-day students will then join on Wednesday, TIA said, for classroom instruction and hands-on demonstrations. Participants with less than two years of hands-on commercial truck tire experience must register for the four -day class.

Baltimore classes are held at the Community College of Baltimore County in Catonsville, Md. Denver classes are held at Lincoln College of Technology in Aurora, Colo. TIA said it negotiated special hotel rates in both cities that include shuttle service to and from the airports and the colleges, eliminating the need for rental cars.
